2014 Golden Globes motion pictures predictions: '12 Years a Slave' or 'Gravity'?

Trying to predict the winners of the Golden Globes may seem like an exercise in futility. But I have a job to do and part of that job is pretending I know something when really, I don't know anything.

But hey, that's part of the fun of awards season, getting to see hundreds of movies and then try and pick one performance or one movie that stand above the rest. This year, much like last year, is pretty wide open. There were a lot of amazing movies this year, which makes it tough to pick which one I think is the best, let alone which of the nominees the Hollywood Foreign Press will vote for.

If any one movie is going to dominate, that movie is "12 Years a Slave". It's tough to watch, but it's a brilliant film. But then again, so is "Gravity", and "American Hustle", and "Her" etc.

But this is the Golden Globes and anything can happen at the Golden Globes. Remember all the feathers that were ruffled when Ben Affleck won Best Director at the 2013 Golden Globes? Expect a few surprises on Sunday as well.

The 71st annual Golden Globes air on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 7:00 CST. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey will co-host this year's festivities.
