Wondering when the first federal holiday of 2014 is? New Year's Day is a federal holiday and if you work for the U.S. Government, you will want to check out the newly published 2014 Federal Holidays calendar so you can figure out when your next paid day off is.
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) lists Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 as the first day off for federal workers (with exceptions) for the new year.
Many Federal employees work on a Monday through Friday schedule. When a holiday falls on a non-work day (Saturday or Sunday), the holiday will normally be observed on Monday (for holidays that fall on Sunday) or Friday (for holidays that fall on a Saturday).
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management states that all non-essential federal government offices are closed on the 10 holidays listed here.
Employees are paid for the day off, but those who have to work typically receive holiday pay in addition to their regular hourly pay.
