The 2014 Dirt Days Trail Series continues with the Powder Keg Trail Run and Walk 5K on Saturday August 23, in Deerfield Township at the Historic Kings Mansion. The race will start at 9am, with the location at 1840 King Ave., near Kings Island. Proceeds will benefit the Deerfield Township Arts Alliance, to benefit future arts programming.

This course will be a scenic one, including a loop taking you down near the Little Miami River, following along the river on the old abandoned King Road along with an old dam. You will get to the top with a series of steps before entering the north side of the park trails and then go to some local ball fields and make your way to the finish.

Awards ceremony will immediately follow the race with cash prizes for the top three overall male and female finishers; $75 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd, and $25 for 3rd. Trail shoes will be awarded to top male and female finishers overall as well, courtesy of ASICS and Bob Roncker’s Running Spot. Age Group Awards will be presented at the ceremony as well. There will be door prizes drawn during the ceremony as well, but you must be present to win.

Pre-registration for this race is $10, available online through August 21st at www.runningtime.net, but there is no early packet pickup. Race day registration will begin at 7:30am for $15, however at that time a t-shirt will be an additional $10.

Local runners, remember this race is part of the Dirt Days Trail Series that started earlier this summer, so if you are already going you can use this one to keep building up the points! For the rest of you, it doesn’t matter if you run one race or run them all, you still get points for the series, so go ahead and run a beautiful trail! Go ahead and check out www.runningtime.net for some more info on the Dirt Days Trail Series details.
