2014 Daylight Savings Time begins: Set clocks ahead & lose an hour of sleep

Does Daylight Savings Time 2014 start this weekend and what time should clocks be turned an hour ahead?

It won't be time to "spring forward" on Sunday, March 9, 2014. That's the day you will lose an hour of sleep, but as a consolation prize, it won't get dark as early.

If you run a business, make sure you set your clocks an hour ahead before you shut down your office for the weekend that DST starts.

For those who don't want to stay up until 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 9 to turn their clocks ahead, change the time at bedtime so you wake up to the correct time.

Most smartphones and computers will automatically adjust the the time automatically, but you will have to reset your microwave, the clock on your stove, and any battery operated clocks you have.

Many cars now reset to the DST, but if you have a manual one, make the change on Saturday night before you go to sleep.

If you live in Arizona (most areas), Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico or American Samoa, you don't have to change your clock as those states and U.S. territories do not participate in DST.

When will Daylight Saving Time end? Turn your clocks back and hour and regain that hour of sleep on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013.
