The 2014 Critics' Choice Awards red carpet helped kick off an evening of fun at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on Jan. 16, with stars like Sandra Bullock ("Gravity") and even Oprah making their way into the ceremony. Oprah chose a rather casual belted dress that appeared to be sort of an olive green and which featured three-quarter sleeves.
Hollywood stars flocked to the beachfront city on Thursday, gathering to honor what the voting members of the Broadcast Film Critics Association decided were the best films of the past year. "August: Osage County" star Julia Roberts, who walked the star-studded red carpet in a slim-fitting black and white dress with a rather dizzying pattern, was among the evening's presenters. Actors Jared Leto ("Dallas Buyers Club") and Leonardo DiCaprio ("Wolf of Wall Street") each opted for an open-shirt look, though Leto took it way further than DiCaprio, who pulled off a slightly more polished look.
For the ladies, we saw a trend of greens, but not always true green, on the red carpet. We saw sort of a bright, shamrock green with black lace overlay on Julia Louis Dreyfus and a sea-foam design with a ruffled neckline on Jessica Chastain, while Oprah Winfrey ("Lee Daniels' The Butler") and Cate Blanchett chose more green-adjacent hues. Meryl Streep gave us the blues in her royal blue number; we're talking three-quarter bell sleeves, a sequined stripe down the length of each side of the front of the dress and a fit that looked every bit a maternity sheath from the 60s. We just didn't dig it, baby.
Juliette Lewis was smoking hot in a lipstick red gown with cap sleeves, beautifully draped skirts and a plunging neckline. We weren't really expecting that! Amy Adams also wowed in hot-pink, finished with a black belt and peek-a-boo straps. Aisha Tyler, the host of the Jan. 16 event, was definitely one of, if not the, best dressed women on red carpet Thursday afternoon. Her black lace gown was figure-hugging and fabulous; classic Hollywood glamour, with just a whisper of a train. A bold red lip and classic up-do finished the look. Gorgeous!
