8:00: St. Paul Academy (Seed 5) vs. Caledonia (Seed 4)

Examining the field: The opening Class AA game features a pair of Wright County Conference teams the New London-Spicer Wildcats and the top seeded Annandale Cardinals. Annandale won both regular season games against NL-S. But the Wildcats are on a roll with seven straight wins and feature two players who played in the Class AAA football final in November, Ryan Vraa and Adam Essler. Things are looking good in the Green Lake area with the football team coming up short in the Prep Bowl and the girls basketball team two wins away from another trip to state? Can NL-S continue the momentum against Annandale?

The Target Center portion concludes with the fifth seeded St. Paul Academy Spartans facing the fourth seeded Caledonia Warriors. It's the first trip for the Spartans who beat top seeded Minnehaha Academy and go up against a young Warrior team that has nine sophomores. They lost only two games this season and fans in the Mississippi Bluff Country area can look forward to even more success from young Caledonia.

At Williams Arena, the winter sports season has been a great one for East Grand Forks Green Wave fans with the girls hockey team second in Class A and the boys wrapping the state title last weekend in St. Paul. Now it's on to the hardwood for EGF, in their first trip to state sine 1971. They have a tough one ahead against the second seeded Esko Eskomos. Can the Green Wave bring back another trophy to the Red River area?

The final game of the day pits the St. Peter Saints and the third seeded Fairmont Cardinals. The Saints were the fourth seed in their subsection in 2AA and have bee playing really good basketball, including a win over top seeded Waseca. They look to continue their outstanding run against the Cardinals.
