2014 STATE CLASS A GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINAL SCHEDULE

GAMES PLAYED THURSDAY, MARCH 20 AT MARIUCCI ARENA, MINNEAPOLIS

11:00: Browerville vs. Minneota (Seed 1)

1:00: Ada-Borup (Seed 5) vs. Goodhue (Seed 4)

3:00: Mankato Loyola vs. Maranatha Christian Academy (Seed 2)

5:00: Win-E-Mac vs. Mountain Iron-Buhl (Seed 3)

Examining the field: Looking at the quarterfinal pairings, you'll notice that six of last year's eight Class A teams return to Minneapolis. The only two that didn't qualify are Goodhue and Browerville. And speaking of Browerville, the Tigers open up the Class A quarterfinals against the top seeded and defending champion Minneota Vikings. The Vikings top two players from last year's team Taylor Reiss and Emily Stienessen. It could be a long bus ride home for Browerville.

In the second game, the fifth seeded Ada-Borup Cougars are back, including their pep band. Their only loss this season was to Win-E-Mac and they have beaten their opponents by an average margin of 34.2 points per game. First up is the fourth seeded Goodhue Wildcats, led by Mikayla Miller.

Next up, the Mankato Loyola Crusaders face the second seeded Maranatha Christian Academy Mustangs. The Mustangs are going for their third title in four years and are led by the Lees, Lexi and Madison. Can the Crusaders take the Mustangs high powered offense off cruise control?

The Class A quarterfinals conclude with the Win-E-Mac Patriots and the third seeded Mountain Iron-Buhl Rangers. The Patriots only two losses were to state tournament teams Goodhue and Ada-Borup. The Rangers have a solid future ahead, led by a pair of freshman Chelsea Mason and Mya Buffetta. It's a 5:00 game. Take off work early and head to Mariucci to see an outstanding match up.
