Last year, Broccoli City launched their first festival in D.C. The Earth Day celebration, geared towards a younger crowd, tries to combine healthy living demonstrations with live music and fun activities. Those who attended the 2013 festival didn't know what to expect. They probably went for headliners Big Krit and Tittsworth, and the food trucks. But they had fun playing with life size Jenga, watching live art, and doing a little zumba.
Perhaps the organizers were going for a nostalgia vibe, with the late nineties early millennial hip hop artists. Headlining this year will be Cam'ron and Just Blaze. Other announced artists include Me and This Army, Sango, Reesa Rennee, and Melker Project. Not all artists have been announced, but the line up seems to be true to the diversity from last year. It would have been nice to see Black Alley on the list again, because they put on a heck of a show. Regardless, past attendees and new ones are sure to have a good time.
While the inaugural festival was held at the DC Fairground, this year's festival will be located at the East Gateway Pavilion. The pavilion, a part of a transformation of St. Elizabeth's, only opened a few months ago. On April 19, the 2014 Broccoli City Festival should be a good test of what the new pavilion is capable of.
