It's one week before the start of the 2014 Minnesota State High School Boys Hockey Tournament and the Road to St. Paul will be free of ice and snow as section finals are decided this week. Here's the lineup for the 16 section finals.
Head over to Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis tonight as the Benilde-St.Margaret's Red Knights face the Eden Prairie eagles for the Section 6 crown at 6 PM. Then stick around for the 8 PM game, with the Bloomington Jefferson Jaguars and the defending Class AA Edina Hornets play for the Section 2 championship.
Over in St. Paul, if you haven't seen high school hockey at the Warner Coliseum at the State Fair, it's your last chance to do so. On Thursday, February 27, the Section 3 final will pit the Eagan Wildcats and the St. Thomas Academy Cadets at 7:PM. Friday, February 28, the Coliseum era ends with the Section 5 final at 6 PM, followed by the Stillwater Poneis and Hill-Murray Pioneers playing for the Section 4 title at 8:30.
Also on the 27th, the Farmington Tigers and Lakeville North Panthers vie for the Section 1 title at 7:PM at the Rochester Recreation Center. Go further north to the Amsoil Arena in Duluth and the Section 7 championship features the Elk River elks and the Duluth East Greyhounds.
The Moorhead Spuds and Roseau Rams will play for the Section 8 championship tonight at what is listed on mshsl.org as "a neutral site."
Can the New Prague Trojans earn their first trip to state? First they will have to play the Mankato West Scarlets for the Section 1 championship tonight at 7 PM at the Rochester Recreation Center.
In Section 2, the Orono Spartans take on the Breck Mustangs for the Section 2 title at 7 PM at the Parade Ice Garden in Minneapolis.
Also tonight is the Section 3 final at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. The Luverne Cardinals will go for their first trip to St. Paul against the New Ulm Eagles.
On Friday, February 28, the Section 4 title will be decided between the Mahtomedi Zephyrs and Totino-Grace Eagles at Aldrich Arena in Maplewood.
Head up Highway 65 toward Isanti on the 27th as the Princeton Tigers and Chisago Lakes Wildcats battle for the Section 5 crown at the David Johnson Arena at 7 PM.
In Section 6, the Alexandria Cardinals take on the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders in a 7 PM game on the 27 at the Municipal Athletic Complex. in St. Cloud.
Tonight's Section 7 title game is a "Battle of the Twin Ports" with the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers and the Hermantown Hawks squaring off at 7:30 at Amsoil Arena in Duluth.
The Section 8 final will also be played on the 27th as the Warroad Warriors and East Grand Forks Green Wave play at 7 Pm at the Ralph Englestad Arena in Thief River Falls.
