If you notice more writerly-types than usual with laptops and notebooks in your favorite Seattle coffee shops next week, it might be because the city is hosting the annual conference for the Association of Writers and Writing Professionals.
AWP is the largest literary conference in North America; last year, over 12,000 people attended.
Registration is required to attend AWP, but on-site registration will be available to members and non-members.
The conference features an incredible line-up of presenters, including Pacific Northwest authors like Sherman Alexie, Erik Larson, David Guterson, Barry Lopez, Timothy Egan, Ursula K. LeGuin, and Lucia Perillo, as well Amy Tan, Chang Rae-Lee, Tobias Wolf, and Colm Toibin. Local booksellers Robert Sindelar of Third Place Books, Pam Cady of University Book Store, Chuck Robinson of Village Books, Rick Simonson of Elliott Bay Books, and Janis Segress of Queen Anne Book Company will also present a panel about the relationship between independent bookstores and authors.
