The official kickoff to the 2014 Anoka Classic Car Show is underway!
Held Saturday nights throughout the summer in downtown Anoka, right behind the Courthouse, this hotspot of activity for cars of all types features music and a festive atmosphere.
Even better, there’s no entry fee for spectators. Car owners who live in Anoka are also free to drive in and park. Otherwise, there’s a $3 entry fee for cars 1981 and older. It’s good to know this money goes to local charities and directly funds the continuation of the show.
One advantage to having this show run virtually every weekend is in case of inclement weather. Such was the case for the kickoff, with dark clouds turning to rain. Though the show cars thinned out quickly, many classics lingered, wanting to mingle just a tad longer. After a extended winter nap, the vintage iron is no doubt dying to dust the cobwebs out of the carb and lose some rubber.
Admittedly, we arrived late on the scene, but there were still plenty of cars to check out. Some owners were even wiping and drying off their rain-soaked paint. To those who double-detailed your cars and braved the elements, we salute you. At least you’re enjoying your rides.
The show is scheduled to have a swap meet join the party in 2014, though details are unclear on the website. More to come later on that subject…
