Bring your whole arsenal of photographic skills to the Great Reno Balloon Race. The Glow Show starts while it's still dark, followed by the Dawn Patrol just as light starts coming to the morning sky. After daybreak, a mass ascension of around 100 hot air balloons fills the air above the launch field at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. As you can see, the picture taking conditions change throughout the event.

The 2014 Great Reno Balloon Race is Friday, September 5 through Sunday, September 7. There will be several new special balloons at this year's event, including the awesome Darth Vader balloon, a giant soccer ball, the old lady in the shoe, a really big lady bug, a gold fish, and returning favorites like Smokey Bear and the Wells Fargo stagecoach.

It's free to attend the Great Reno Balloon Race and thousands of people come each day. The streets around the site get congested, so sure to check out the transportation and parking options to ensure you'll have fun rather than end up in a traffic hassle. Remember, parking is not allowed along McCarran Boulevard during the event. If you try it, count on getting a ticket and maybe a tow.
