2013 Top Fuel champ Shawn Langdon took the No. 1 qualifier at the historic Amalie Motor Oil NHRA GatorNationals on Saturday. Cruz Pedregon (Funny Car), Dave Connolly (Pro Stock) and Michael Ray (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also earned No. 1s at Auto Plus Raceway at Gainesville in Florida.
Langdon will face J.R. Todd in the first round after a fast pass of 3.776 seconds at 325.37 mph, beating out Antron Brown (3.804 seconds/320.43 mph) for the top spot on the ladder. Richie Crampton (3.816 seconds/322.34 mph), Doug Kalitta (3.819 seconds/321.04 mph) and David Grubnic (3.823 seconds/312.78 mph) complete the top five in Top Fuel.
Pedregon earned his first No. 1 qualifier of 2014 with a pass of 4.068 seconds at 308.21 mph, and will face No. 16 qualifier John Force in the first round on Sunday. Bob Tasca III (4.103 seconds/304.39 mph), Jack Beckman (4.108 seconds/305.15 mph), Chad Head (4.115 seconds/300.46 mph) and Courtney Corce (4.121 seconds/308.85 mph) round out the top five.
Connolly earned his first No. 1 since 2008 with his fast pass of 6.476 seconds at 213.98 mph; he’ll face Matt Hartford in round one on Sunday. Erica Enders-Stevens qualified No. 2 with a 6.483-second pass at a national speed record of 214.69 mph. Jeg Coughlin Jr. (6.484 seconds/214.62 mph), Allen Johnson (6.487 seconds/214.04 mph) and Shane Gray (6.495 seconds/213.60 mph) complete the Pro Stock top five.
Ray earned the top spot in the first PSM race of the season with a fast pass of 6.793 seconds at 197.74 mph, ahead of last year’s PSM champ Matt Smith (6.800 seconds/196.96 mph); Ray faces Fredrik Fredlund in the first round of eliminations. Hector Arana Jr. (6.806 seconds/196.47 mph), Andrew Hines (6.813 seconds/195.68 mph) and John Hall (6.830 seconds/196.27 mph) round out the top five.
