2014 Academy Awards: ’20 Feet From Stardom’ wins Best Documentary Feature Oscar

Legendary songstress Darlene Love received a standing ovation at the 2014 Oscars Sunday night at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood after her film “20 Feet From Stardom” won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The singer and actress whose voice can be heard on many hits from the ‘60s took to the mic and belted out lyrics from the gospel classic “His Eye is on The Sparrow” which got members of the audience on their feet.

Love and her fellow unsung back-up singers Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer, Tata Vega and Judith Hill finally get to shine in the film directed by Morgan Neville. She will be the subject of a biopic to air on Oprah Winfrey’s Network that will be adapted from her memoir “My Name is Love: The Darlene Love Story”.

20 Feet From Stardom faced the films “The Act of Killing”, “Cutie and The Boxer”, “Dirty Wars” and “The Square” in the Best Documentary Feature category.
