Dating back to 1878, the White House Easter Egg Roll is something that would bring young children to Washington, DC, every Monday after Easter for egg rolling and a day of activities. This year the Easter Egg Roll falls on April 1, 2013. No foolin'!
Today, the Easter Egg Roll has become the largest event held at the White House each year with thousands of children from every state in the union converging on the area with their families. The day is filled with live music, storytelling, sports, cooking stations and the traditional rolling of the Easter eggs. In support of the First Lady's Let's Move! initiative, the Easter Egg Roll will promote healthy and active living and is designed for children 13 years of age and under.
Washington DC is an easy drive from Atlanta or there are dozens of flights going there each day, making the Easter Egg Roll accessible to most Atlanta families. Getting tickets to the festivities is the hardest part though and done through an online lottery system.
The 2013 lottery opens at 10 AM on Thursday, February 21, 2013 and the deadline for entries is Monday, February 25, 2013 at 10 AM. . Signing up for the lottery is free of charge and tickets for winners are free of charge. Full ticketing details can be found at: www.whitehouse.gov/eastereggroll
