The 2013 VMAs can now be officially labeled as the most controversial show for MTV, all due to Miley Cyrus’ risqué performance. LA Times reported on Aug. 27, that 18.5 million tweets were written about Sunday’s award show with an average of 306,000 tweets per minute, according to Nielsen's SocialGuide.
Many were disgusted and outraged by Miley’s behavior, but with this potentially becoming the best year ever for MTV’s ratings, what will stop something this distasteful from happening again. Miley will surely benefit from her, while admittedly negative, publicity.
The VMAs, though far surpassing all other shows, was not the only program MTV had ranked by Nielson. The music network had four shows that broke the top 10 in the most tweets for this past week, including the second ranking, “Teen Wolf”, with 662,300 tweets.
Do you think Miley will be benefited by this week’s Twitter storm or will she regret her actions at the VMAs?
