The 2013 US Open tennis live stream online and televised coverage gets started on Monday, Aug. 26 as players compete for one of the major tournament championships. Among those in the men's and women's tournaments will be stars including Serena and Venus Williams, as well as top men's players Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Tournament coverage for day 1 kicks off in the early afternoon courtesy of ESPN sports networks.
According to a Washington Post report from Aug. 26, Serena Williams has said she's ready for this tournament after losing in the finals of a WTA tournament earlier this month to Victoria Azarenka. Serena said the loss has helped motivate her coming into the U.S. Open action, telling reporters:
“Every time I lose, I get so pumped afterwards. I just feel like now I’m ready; now I’m prepared. I almost needed that to take my game to a new level.”
In last year's Open, it was Serena defeating Azarenka. However, Victoria may now be prepared for a rematch if the two should meet. Williams is a four-time defending champion at the event and will open with a match against Kirsten Flipkens for the first round. Her sister, Serena, opens at 7 p.m. EST against Francesca Schiavone of Italy. Serena is the favorite to win it all for the women.
For the men, Rafael Nadal comes into the Open as the favorite, followed by Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Roger Federer. In 2012, Murray won for the men's side, defeating Djokovic in five sets, in a match which lasted almost five hours and included several long rallies between the two competitors. Djokovic opens with Ricardas Berankis, while Murray plays Mihcael Llodra of France. Federer will open against Grega Zemilia.
Coverage of games for this 2013 edition of the U.S. Open tennis will be presented through ESPN and Tennis channel for much of the early rounds. The finals will switch over to CBS for televised coverage.
Today's US Open tennis coverage begins at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Viewers in the United States can watch on TV via ESPN 2. The channel will have coverage of Venus Williams vs. Kirsten Flipkens at that time, and lists a match between Serena Williams and Francesca Schiavone for 7 p.m. EST. Live stream online coverage of various courts from Arthur Ashe Stadium will be seen on ESPN3/WatchESPN site.
