2013 track profile: Summit Motorsports Park

Summit Motorsports Park, located at 1300 State Route 18 in Norwalk, Ohio, was known as Norwalk Dragway when it opened in 1963, and was often used as a test track by Goodyear Tires. In a state of disrepair when Bill Bader Sr. purchased the track sight unseen in 1974, he was determined to make a go of it. In 1980, he approached the IHRA about running a national event at the track (the NHRA had already turned him down), and after meeting the IHRA's list of requirements, the track hosted the IHRA World Nationals from 1981 to 2006.

The track finally did get its NHRA event, the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, in 2007. The 2013 NHRA Nationals will take place Thursday through Sunday, July 4th through 7th. Tickets for the four-day event are currently on sale at www.summitmotorsportspark.com. The Top Eliminator Club package, available for $325 per person, includes a four-day VIP admission pass with reserved seat, admission to the TEC members-only hospitality center, complimentary soft drinks and bottled water daily, complimentary meal buffets on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and much more. Four-day reserved seating tickets are $130 from adults; single day passes and junior and children’s pricing are also available.
