Eldora Speedway, the dirt track equivalent to “Field of Dreams” for many racers, opened in 1954. In 2013, the 0.5-mile clay oval begins a new adventure, as it hosts the first NASCAR national series event on dirt since 1970.
In late 2004, three-time Cup Series champ Tony Stewart purchased the famed dirt track from founder and builder Earl Baltes, and Stewart has continued popular events such as the World 100, the Kings Royal and the Dirt Late Model Dream, while adding a mark or two of his own, including the popular charity race the Prelude to the Dream (taking a hiatus in 2013) and in 2013, the inaugural Mudsummer Classic for NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series.
Among the 27 dates scheduled at Eldora Speedway for 2013: April 20th – USAC National Sprint Cars, May 3rd and 4th – World of Outlaws Sprint Cars; May 10th and 11th – TORC-Traxxas Off-Road Championship; June 6th through 8th – Dirt Late Model Dream; July 12th and 13th – the Knight Before the Kings Royal and the Kings Royal; July 24th – the Mudsummer Classic for the Truck Series; September 5th through 7th – the World 100; and September 20th and 21st – the Four Crown Nationals for the WoO Sprint Cars and USAC’s Midgets, Sprint Cars and Silver Crown Series.
Tickets for many of these events are now on sale – the Truck Series race is almost a sell-out. Find out more about tickets and these events at www.eldoraspeedway.com.
