Located in Morrison, Colorado, just outside Denver, Bandimere Speedway is the home of the Mopar NHRA Mile-High Nationals. It’s a particularly tricky dragstrip, as the altitude – more than 5,800 feet – affects engine tuning, aerodynamics, and more; it is also the first race of a three-week Western swing for the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, hosting all four major series (Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle).
Construction of Bandimere Speedway began in 1958, and the entire facility has been improved since 1988, when the track received a $4 million face-lift to help bring in more high-profile events, plus give fans better seating, racers better pit areas, and sponsors improved signage. Capacity in the grandstand at the time went from 8,000 to more than 23,000.
Weekly racing at the track gets going in April, with the big event, the Mile-High Nationals, taking place July 19th through 21st. Tickets for the NHRA weekend are on sale now at www.bandimere.com; Friday tickets range in price from $20 to $52, while Saturday tickets range in price from $18 to $50; tickets for Sunday’s eliminations range in price from $24 to $58.
