2012 ended with a bang for Comic Cons. Wizard World New Orleans drew in thousands of fans to end the year. Headline celebrities such as Jonathan Frakes, Kevin Sorbo, Marina Sirtis, Jason David Frank, and Norman Reedus, were big draws. Fan groups such as Krewe Du Who and well known artist such as Neal Adams, and Billy Tucci also appeared at the Con.
And 2013 will also be a big year for local cons in the Houston area as well as cons that are in easy distance from Harris County. You say you don't where to go well let us guide you. The following cons are in the Houston area or in easy driving distance from Harris County,
-Dallas Comic Con: May 17-19 at the Irving Convention Center. This is the big kick off of the Texas convention season. Although there are fan days and sci-fi expo days here, this is the big one. Featuring guests such as Nathan Fillion, Richard Dean Anderson, Kevin Conroy, Jim Steranko, Len Wein, Brandon Routh and the first of three convention appearances of transplanted south east Texan, Jason David Frank, for further details and ticket info click here.
-Comicpalooza: May 24-26 at The George R. Brown Convention Center. This year will be the biggest yet. This is Houston's largest con and it looks to be spectacular. Sharing the main con will be Galacticon, the Battlestar Galactica convention held once every five years. This years Galacticon will be in Houston, and past and present series stars such as Edward James Olmos, Richard Hatch, Jamie Bamber, Dirk Benedict, Anne Hathaway, Herbert Jefferson Jr. and Michael Hogan. You say that's too much for you , you say you need a Doctor ? Well we have good news, Mr. Peter Davison, the Fifth Doctor, will be attending Comicpalooza as well as Avery Brooks and Rene Auberjonois. -Space City Con: August 2-4 at The Houston Marriott Westchase. Houston’s newest comic/fantastic media convention looks to expand on the previous years success. With guests from Star Trek, such as Walter Koening, Tim Russ, and John DeLancie and Power Rangers, including the afore mentioned Mr. Frank,Steve Cardenas and Karan Ashley. Also on hand will be Sylvester McCoy, the Seventh Doctor, it looks to be a great show. With special emphasis on gaming and authors of fantastic fiction this con is definitely unique. -Wizard World Austin: November 22-24 at The Austin Convention Center. This year ends with a bang for comic convention goers and as usual Wizard World delivers another awesome show. Guests include Stan 'The Man' Lee, Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker of 'The Walking Dead', Kelly Hu, Lou Ferrigno, Mr. Jason David Frank, and creators such as Neal Adams, Greg Capullo and Barry Kitson.
