Looking at the Section 6AA girls soccer tournament bracket, the road to the state tournament will go through the Lake Conference, with three of the five schools occupying the top three seeds. Here's a quarterfinal preview.
In the first quarterfinal game, the Cooper Hawks go up against the top seeded Minnetonka Skippers. The Skippers, were the top ranked team in Class AA for most of the season until they lost two straight games to conference rials Eden Prairie and Edina. They also beat defending class A champion Benilde-St. Margaret's. Could the school on Highway 7 pick up another trophy? It's very likely.
The second quarterfinal game will pit the fifth seeded St. Louis Park Orioles and the fourth seeded Minneapolis Southwest Lakers. It's been n up and down season for the Orioles since Lauren Miller got her diploma and headed for North Dakota State. They had an early season loss to Hopkins 2-1 in August. Southwest has lost three out of heir last four games, including a 4-0 loss to Edina on October 3. This is an interesting matchup but the winner more than likely will head to Minnetonka this Saturday.
The sixth seeded Armstrong Falcons will face the third seeded Hopkins Royals in the nest quarterfinal game. The Royals have lost two straight after a key win against Benilde-St. Margaret's. They will likely get back on track against Armstrong, who has been unbeaten in their last four games.
Wrapping up Quarterfinal Thursday will be the seventh seeded Minneapolis South Tigers and the second seeded Wayzata Trojans. The Trojans played Minnetonka twice in the regular season and lost 2-1 in overtime and played to a 2-2 tie. What will the result be if the Skippers and Trojans battle for a state tournament berth on October 15? Find out in the next two games.
