Darrell Wallace Jr., driver of the No. 54 Toyota Tundra in the Camping World Truck Series for Kyle Busch Motorsports in 2013, made history and impressed many in his rookie season in NASCAR’s upper-tier. The Drive for Diversity graduate, who won six races in three seasons in the K&N Pro Series East (2010 to 2012), added another win to his resume in 2013, and in doing so became just the second African-American driver to win a race in NASCAR’s top-tier series.

Wallace Jr., who had a best finish of second in K&N Pro Series East points (2011), finished eighth in points in the 22-race Camping World Truck Series schedule, earning 12 top 10 finishes and a pole, with an average finish of 12.6. Wallace Jr. finished 12th in the season-opener at Daytona, then picked up a fifth-place finish at Martinsville. A seventh-place finish at Kansas was sandwiched in between disappointing finishes at Rockingham and Charlotte (27th at both tracks).

Beginning with the late-May race at Dover, Wallace Jr. put together seven top 10 finishes in 10 races, winning his first Truck Series pole at Dover; the stretch included a seventh-place finish at the inaugural dirt race at Eldora Speedway and a fourth-place finish at the road course race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

In the season’s final seven races, Wallace Jr. had a worst finish of 20th (Phoenix) and the best finish of his young career at Martinsville Speedway in October, winning the race from the third position and becoming the first African-American since Wendell Scott to win in NASCAR’s upper echelon.

No announcement has officially been made concerning KBM in the Truck Series for the 2014 season. Learn more about the 2014 NASCAR season at www.nascar.com and www.kylebuschmotorsports.com.
