Forty-one floats, 36 competitors, 24 trophies. Who won the awards in the 124th Rose Parade? Here’s the list of today's winners! Remember to bookmark this article, because as stories are posted about each float, they will be added here.
This year had some especially deserving entries. Some were shoo-ins—Kaiser Permanente with The Cat in the Hat on “Oh the Healthy Things You Can Do” for Theme trophy, and the Department of Defense salute to Korean War veterans for the National trophy, for example—but others were surprises.
For the first time in more than a dozen years, the prestigious Isabella Coleman trophy for “best presentation of color and color harmony through floral use” was awarded to a self-built float. Sierra Madre’s “The Sky’s the Limit” with a patchwork kite soaring above a trio of rainbows. Miracle-Gro didn’t come onboard until October, but the last-minute entry, “Everyone Grows!” took the Crown City Innovation award.
Paradiso, a brand-new float builder, had only one entry, the City of San Gabriel Centennial. “Celebrating Our Journey,” with beautiful representations of the various cultures that laid the foundation for the city, won the Director's Trophy honoring Jacob Maarse.
