2013 People's Choice Awards: Justin Bieber, 'Glee,' and 'Avengers' lead nominees (Video)

Did you know that there were 48 separate categories that will produce over four dozen trophy winners by the end of the night (Wednesday, Jan. 9) on the 2013 People's Choice Awards? Well, that's if you don't count the special award that will be presented to actress Sandra Bullock for her humanitarian work. But that's quite a few awards to be given out in a two-hour show. Of course, only those that viewers will be most interested in will be given airtime on the 39th annual People's Choice Awards. Producers probably could get them all in during the allotted time, but what then would one do with the live entertainment?

Leading the pack of award nominees in music is Justin Bieber. The Canadian pop heartthrob was nominated in five categories, including Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Pop Artist, Favorite Album, Favorite Music Video and Favorite Music Fan Following. You'd think that with so many nominations, he just might be asked to perform. He might have been, but he's not on the schedule.

Tied with Bieber in nominations is the television singing comedy series "Glee." The show is up for Favorite Network TV Comedy, Favorite Comedic TV Actor (Chris Colfer), Favorite TV Fan Following and two nominees in the Favorite Comedic TV Actress award category: Lea Michele and Jane Lynch.

In the movie section, "The Avengers" notched up seven movie-specific nominations, including Favorite Movie, Favorite Action Movie, and two nominations in the Favorite Movie Superhero category (Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America).

Among those that will perform will be country music standout Jason Aldean, pop icon and "The Voice" judge/coach Christina Aguilera, and recent Billboard 200 chart-topper Alicia Keys.

The live broadcast from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on January 9 will present the usual star-studded affair. Kaley Cuoco ("Big Bang Theory") will host the event for the second consecutive season. She is also up for an award: Favorite Comedic TV Actress.

Presenting awards during the event will be Jennifer Aniston, Chris Colfer ("Glee"), Alison Sweeney ("The Biggest Loser"), Rachel Leigh Cook, Chris O'Donnell ("NCIS: Los Angeles"), Eddie Redmayne ("Les Miserables"), Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Downey Jr., Ellen Degeneres, Jared Padalecki ("Supernatural"), Anthony Anderson ("Guys with Kids"), Olivia Munn ("The Newsroom"), Stephen Amell ("Arrow"), Linda Hunt, and others.

The 2013 People's Choice Awards will air live from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. (EST) on CBS Television on January 9.
