Who will win at the 2013 Oscars? Who should win?
Here are my picks for some of the major Oscar categories: who I think will win, and who I think should win. Remember, this is just, like, my opinion, man.
Best Picture
"Lincoln" will win.
"Argo" should win.
Both were based on historical events. Both featured guys with dark beards. "Argo", though, was less obviously Oscar bait; and was a compelling take on a genuinely weird story.
Best Director
Steven Spielberg ("Lincoln") will win.
Ang Lee ("Life of Pi") should win. That guy's like some sort of freakin' wizard.
Best Actor
Daniel Day Lewis ("Lincoln") should and will win.
Best Actress
Jennifer Lawrence ("Silver Linings Playbook") will win.
Quvenzhané Wallis ("Beasts of the Southern Wild") should win, but I don't see the Academy giving this award to a girl who was six years old at the time the film was made.
Best Supporting Actor
Tommy Lee Jones ("Lincoln") will win.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman ("The Master") should win.
Christoph Waltz ("Django Unchained") already won an Oscar for playing essentially the same character for the same director, so he will not win. Waltz was excellent both times, though.
Best Supporting Actress
Sally Field ("Lincoln") will win. It's tough to beat Sally Field.
Best Animated Film
"Brave" will win, as this is basically the Annual Pixar Award.
While one of Pixar's weaker efforts, it's still, in my opinion, the best animated film of the year.
Best Cinematography
Robert Richardson ("Django Unchained") will win.
I'd like to see the Oscar go to Claudio Miranda ("Life of Pi"), though. That film had several truly jaw-dropping moments.
Best Visual Effects
"The Hobbit" will win.
"Life of Pi" should win. Richard Parker is the new Gollum.
Best Original Screenplay
Marc Boal will win for "Zero Dark Thirty".
Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola should win for "Moonrise Kingdom".
Best Costume Design
"Les Misérables" will win.
"Anna Karenina" should win.
Best Original Song
It'd be insane to bet against Adele ("Skyfall").
