2013 Oscar nominees: Actor in supporting role competition is fierce (Video)

The 2013 Oscar nominations were released early Thursday morning on ABC Good Morning America with the competition rather fierce between nominees for actors in a supporting role. According to The Wall Street Journal Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone included some surprising nominees while announcing the 2013 Oscar nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards.

The 85th annual Academy Awards will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane and film live at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland and is scheduled to air on Feb. 24 on ABC.

The movie “Lincoln” topped Oscar nominations and is currently up for 12 Oscar awards.

However, the most interesting news comes via the actor in a supporting role category. All five nominees have previously won an Oscar award.

Alan Arkin won an Oscar in the supporting role category in 2006 for “Little Miss Sunshine.” Robert De Niro currently is the only one in this category that has two Oscars. Robert has an Oscar for the 1980 movie“Raging Bull” and one for acting in a supporting role in1974 for “The Godfather: Part II” movie. Philip Seymour Hoffman has an Oscar as a leading actor in for the 2005 movie “Capote.” Tommy Lee Jones won previously for his role as a supporting actor in the 1995 movie “Fugitive.” Finally Christoph Waltz also won an Oscar as an actor in a supporting role for “Inglourious Basterds” in 2009.

Alan Arkin is currently nominated for his supporting role in the movie “Argo,” Robert De Niro for the movie “Silver Linings Playbook,” Philip Seymour Hoffman for “The Master,” Tommy Lee Jones for “Lincoln” and Christoph Waltz for “Django Unchained.”

The nominees for best actress in a supporting role are Amy Adams for “The Master,” Sally Field for “Lincoln” Anne Hathaway for “Les Misérables,” Helen Hunt for “The Sessions” and Jacki Weaver for “Silver Linings Playbook.”

The best actor nominees included the movies “Lincoln” for actor Daniel Day-Lewis, “Silver Linings Playbook” for Bradley Cooper and “Flight” for Denzel Washington.

The best actress nominees included the movies “Zero Dark Thirty” for Jessica Chastain and “Silver Linings Playbook” for Jennifer Lawrence.
