Gotham Girls and the Shock Exchange both reside in NYC, but the talent of NY/NJ reaches far beyond the five boroughs. When I began writing about this part of the world (last year) I was fearful of writing 20 Gotham profiles. The talent above and beyond Gotham (and on the men’s side, beyond the giants of the Shock Exchange), is in full force this year. (With a peppering of our Derby Immortals in there too)

Introducing your New York & New Jersey Reserves; slots 17-20 on a charter. Congrats to everyone who made the list!

Lauren ForcerSuburbia Roller Derby – Primarily a jammer, it’s hard to find a photo of Lauren struggling. She is truly struggling. She always appears calm and collected (even when trapped behind the hips of Queen City). Her solid jamming and track awareness makes her an obvious choice for the Top 20; and the New York All-Stars agree. She has earned a spot on their roster for the Battle of the All-Stars next weekend.

CamArrowIthaca League of Women Rollers - **Insert FanGirl Giggling** I’m sorry, but I absolutely love watching CamArrow skate. There is something magical about watching a very tall women in complete control of herself and her opponents. Length of limb can leave some gangly, but not Cam. When jamming she can step right past you, when blocking she can use her legs to take up the whole track and you don’t stand a chance to get by. She is another member of the New York All-Stars, and she is a weapon.

Little LocaSuburbia Roller Derby – Little, she may be, but she is a fireball. When she jams, watch yourself. She is unafraid to burst into a wall and attack a solo blocker. Her confidence is astounding and watching her attacking other jammers is kind of amazing. Just looking at her, you see strength.

Slay WestCNY Roller Derby – I love Slay West. I will say it. I have known her for years now and she has a lightness and prancing speed that I cannot wrap my head around. She is also in the ranks of the New York All-Star team. “Words cannot describe how awesome Slay West is! Any team would be lucky to have her. She is a true triple threat, who plays SMART roller derby. She is always positive and smiling. Everyone who knows her - loves her. She has made me a better skater, and I couldn't imagine playing without her.” - Gutshot, CNY Roller Derby

Thank you Tyler Shaw, Minh Insixiangmy, Asa Frye, Nocklebeast, Rick Odell Photography and Hispanic Attack for the photography in this article!
