It's Christmas day for college football fans as the future stats make their destinations official. For Notre Dame this year's class ranks amongst the best in all of college football and filled several needs. Here is a look at the offensives signees for the Fighting Irish this year.
QUARTERBACK Malik Zaire, 6'0" 196, Kettering, OH, ****
A big get for the Irish at quarterback. One of the top quarterbacks in the nation and a guy that fits Brian Kelly's system perfectly.
RUNNING BACK
Greg Bryant, 5'11" 197, Delray Beach, FL, *****
A top running back recruit and one of three five-star recruits in the class. Bryant could be a guy that sees the field early despite the glut of talent ahead of him.
Tarean Folston, 5'10" 195, Cocoa, FL, ****
A late commitment for the Irish, Folston gives Notre Dame a speed option at running back. Along with Greg Bryant, gives the Irish one of the top running back tandems in the country.
WIDE RECEIVER
William Fuller, 6'1" 168, Philadelphia, PA, ****
A one-time Penn State commit, Fuller flipped to the Irish after the NCAA sanctions came down. Has a chance to see the field early but needs to bulk up first.
Torii Hunter Jr., 6'0" 172, Prosper, TX, ****
Son of MLB All-Star Torii Hunter, considered a top wide receiver talent. Hunter broke his femur at the US Army All-American game all but ending his chances of early playing time, but could be a big-time performer beginning in 2014.
James Onwualu, 6'1" 205, St. Paul, MN, ****
Listed as an athlete, Onwualu will get his first look at receiver. Coming from the same high school as former Irish star Michael Floyd.
Corey Robinson, 6'4" 195, San Antonio, TX, ****
Recently earned a fourth star from rivals.com. Robinson brings great size and could be a candidate for early playing time.
TIGHT END
Mike Heuerman, 6'4" 220, Naples, FL, **** One of five early enrolees, Heuerman looks like he could be the next great Irish tight end. Comes in with great size and hands. Could make an immediate impact backing up Troy Niklas and Ben Koyack.
Durham Smythe, 6'6" 230, Belton, TX, *** Committed in January giving Notre Dame two outstanding tight end prospects. Already has great size. May redshirt a season before making an impact starting in 2014.
OFFENSIVE LINE
Hunter Bivin, 6'7" 288, Owensboro, KY, ****
One of five offensive line commitments for the Irish, Bivin committed way back in March. Is another tall, physical prospect that Brian Kelly loves in a lineman.
Steve Elmer, 6'6" 305, Midland, MI, ****
The first commitment for Notre Dame, Elmer has been waiting nearly 17 months to sign his letter-of-intent. A huge prospect not just in terms of size, but also of talent where Elmer ranks as one of the best offensive linemen in the country.
Mike McGlinchey, 6'9" 280, Philadelphia, PA, ****
Another tall prospect that gives the Irish great size up front. Will provide some great depth early and could turn out to be a great player in a couple of years.
Colin McGovern, 6'5" 284, New Lenox, IL, ***
Another big player that will provide immediate depth along the line in 2013. McGovern will be a solid contributor sooner than later.
John Montelus, 6'5" 295, Everett, MA, ****
A big time recruit that gives ND five outstanding offensive line prospects. Could be a cornerstone for the line in a couple of seasons.
Those are the offensive players signed by the Fighting Irish on Wednesday. Tomorrow we'll look at the defensive signees.
