2013 NHRA preview: Pro Stock

The 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season kicks off February 14th through 17th with the NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in California, and the Pro Stock division will see a strong new two-car team chasing another championship.

2012 Pro Stock champ Allen Johnson and four-time champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. have joined forces under the J&J Racing umbrella, driving Mopar-backed Dodge Avengers in the 2013 campaign, with Hemi motors from Johnson’s shop.

A returning face to the Pro Stock division will be Rickie Jones, who has been competing in the American Drag Racing League. Jones will run a 10-race schedule with backing from Mark Stockseth and in partnership with Elite Perfomance; Summit Racing Equipment will be an associate sponsor on Jones’ Pro Stock.

After finishing fourth in points in 2012 on the strength of three wins, Erica Enders became Erica Enders-Stevens in the offseason, marrying fellow Pro Stock driver Richie Stevens, who proposed after her historic first Pro Stock win at Chicago in July. She returns with Cagnazzi Racing in 2013.

Very little news has come from the Pro Stock division during the offseason – stay up-to-date with all the happenings in the NHRA as the 2013 season gets closer at www.nhra.com.
