The 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season continues with the second race of the season for the Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock divisions at the NHRA Arizona Nationals, taking place Friday through Sunday, February 22nd through 24th at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, Arizona. Last year’s winners Robert Hight (Funny Car), Jason Line (Pro Stock) and Antron Brown (Top Fuel) will be ready to defend their titles against a top-notch mixture of veterans and rookies.
Brown, 2012 Top Fuel champ, was involved in a spectacular crash last weekend in the second round of the Winternationals, but escaped with minor injuries. He’ll be back at it against Don Schumacher Racing teammates Tony Schumacher (who was runner-up at the Winternationals) and Spencer Massey, last weekend’s winner Shawn Langdon and his Al-Anabi Racing teammate Khalid alBalooshi and Morgan Lucas Racing’s Brandon Bernstein and Morgan Lucas among others.
Courtney Force earned the second victory of her career last weekend at Pomona, but her father, John Force, is the one to watch at FIR – he’s the all-time leader with eight victories at the track. 2012 Funny Car champ Jack Beckman has three wins of his own at FIR, and will be looking to rebound from his first-round exit last weekend.
Vincent Nobile is leading Pro Stock points following his win at the Winternationals, but Jeg Coughlin Jr., V. Gaines and Greg Stanfield all had strong showings as well. Erica Enders-Stevens, Greg Anderson and Line all suffered first-round losses at Pomona and look to rebound.
Qualifying sessions for the professional classes at the NHRA Arizona Nationals are Friday at 2 and 4 p.m. MT and Saturday at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. MT. Eliminations get underway on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT. Follow the action at www.nhra.com and the NHRA Twitter page.
