The 2013 NFL schedule is winding down, so that means one thing – NFL coaching rumors galore! Once again the biggest names and the newest upcoming coordinators will be flying around over the next month and already two of the most sought after coaches are already churning the rumor mill.
According to an ESPN report on Dec.19, Lovie Smith has reportedly interviewed with the Houston Texans, while the never ending Jon Gruden rumors once again have him linked to his former team in Oakland.
ESPN reported Smith who is a Texas native interviewed last Monday for the Texans job. If Smith doesn’t land back in his home state, he will surely draw interest from several other teams.
Meanwhile, Yahoo! Sports reported on Dec. 20 that former Raiders coach and current ESPN analyst Jon Gruden could be interested in his old job, at least according to former QB Rich Gannon.
Yahoo! reported that Gannon seemed to suggest in a recent radio interview with 95.7 The Game radio in San Francisco, that a return to Oakland for Gruden wouldn't be a totally crazy notion.
“I’ve had conversations with Jon in the past,” Gannon said. “I don't think it's outside the realm of possibilities.”
Gruden insists that he is staying at ESPN, but when it comes to former coaches who still have a lot in the tank you can never say never.
Gruden remains one of the most popular figures in football to this day as fans have taken to social media to express their interest in him. Gruden has also been rumored to become the next coach at the University of Texas.
