It’s almost New Year’s Eve so you better get cracking to make your plans for the last night of 2013! Here’s a guide to some restaurants hosting New Year’s dining events.
Avenues Proper: Seating until 10 p.m., Avenues Proper will serve their normal menu as well as some small plate and entree specials for the holiday. House-brewed beers and champagne will also be available. 376 8th Ave.; 385-227-8628.
Bambara: On New Year’s Eve, Bambara will be open for breakfast from 7-10 a.m., for lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and will be serving Chef Powers' dinner menu and the following specials from 5:30-9 p.m. Special course offerings include: short ribs with dungeness crab and truffles; oysters with champagne mignonette; blood orange salad; and buckwheat blinis with caviar.
On New Year's Day, Bambara will be open for brunch only from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. serving the full Sunday brunch menu. 202 S. Main St.; 801-363-5454.
Caffe Niche: Beginning at 5 p.m., Caffe Niche will feature a special five-course New Year's Eve celebration includubg an amuse bouche, soup or salad option, and a choice of three for each appetizer, main and dessert courses. The cost is $50, not including tax or gratuity. Wine pairings will be hand selected and are available at an additional cost.
Then, on New Year's Day, Niche will be open for brunch from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. New chef's brunch specialties include jalapeño cheddar biscuits and gravy, chicken chilaquiles, whole wheat sour cream pancakes, and Ethan's Niche breakfast plate, a healthier option including two local free range eggs, avocado topped with black sea salt, sautéed spinach, toast or tomatoes dressed in EVOO, balsamic, smoked sea salt and cracked pepper. 779 East and 300 South; 801-433-3380.
Copper Onion: Through New Year's, Copper Onion is pouring six sparkling wines including prosecco, cava and even Veuve Clicquot all by the glass! Beverage Director Jimmy Santangelo stated, “we’re featuring sparkling wines from around the world ranging in styles from the lighter more floral prosecco’s of Italy to the classic styles of Champagne.” Stop by for a glass and a snack next week.
Cucina Vanina: Offering a five-course dinner including lobster soup, handmade pheasant ravioli and fresh scallops with wine pairing. Live music and dancing will also be available. Reservations are required. 801-938-9706.
Faustina: A decadent four-course menu of Chef Kemp's mix of traditional and new American favorites will be served from 4 p.m. The cost is $50 per person not including suggested wine pairings, tax or gratuity. Faustina will be closed on New Year's Day. 454 E. 300 South; 801-746-4441.
Finca: To honor the Spanish "Old Night" tradition of eating 12 grapes on New Year’s Eve, the restaurant will offer a six-course grape tasting and tapas menu, paired with a grape-based libation for $45 per person. 1291 S. 1100 East; 801-487-0699.

Grand America: Dine in Grand style this New Year's Eve and enjoy a four-course prix fixe menu with wines from their extensive cellar. Hawaiian swordfish, Kobe ribeye, trout almondine and much more are on this year's menu. After dinner, head to the Lobby Lounge or Gibson Girl Lounge to ring in the New Year.

La Caille: La Caille is open for dining reservations from 5:30 - 9:30 p.m. with a prix fixe dinner for $95 with optional wine pairings. Oasis Café: A special four-course prix fixe menu from 5 p.m. Cost is $37 not including suggested wine pairings, tax or gratuity.
