The biggest race of the year is the Motocross of Nations and this year the race is in Teutschenthal, Germany, home of 2013 west coast SX champion Ken Roczen and the country that won last years MX of Nations with Max Nagl, Ken Roczen and Marcus Schiffer. They stopped the US team's seven year winning streak and this year's team again consists of Max Nagl and Ken Roczen with the addition of Dennis Ullrich. That's two thirds of the the winning effort they had last year but remember they won without even winning a single moto and this year they are in their home country. Will this give Team Germany an advantage? We'll find out this Sunday.
The US team will show up in Germany with a vengeance because last year's third place finish was way below everyones expectations for the winningest team of this event. This year's team will consist of the top finisher from the Lucas Oil Motocross Championships minus the 450 MX champion Ryan Villopoto because of surgery he had directly after the outdoor series. This means Ryan Dungey (2nd in the series), Justin Barcia (3rd in the series) and Eli Tomac (2013 250 MX Champion) will have the extreme challenge of bringing the trophy back home to the United States.
Despite the US team coming off a third place finish last year they are still being considered as the favorites going into this weekend's race. So this should prove to be an exciting race as always. And even with Germany being six hours ahead of us everyone in the eastern time zone of the western world will be fortunate enough to watch it at 3:00 pm on the CBS Sports Network as part of their CBS Sports Spectacular. You'll definitely want to set the DVR for this three hour broadcast. And if you missed last year's race or just want to watch it again before this year's just click play on the video attached to this article. That day's events were so unprecedented not just because the US Team barely made the podium but because Team Germany had won for the first time in history.
