Lunar New Year festivities continue with many inexpensive or free events for the whole family.
The opening festivities for lunar new year took place at the Wing Luke Museum. The celebrations and activities were a great deal of fun for children including a scavenger hunt with prizes, coloring and crafts, games and a stuffed animal petting zoo where they were able to learn about the animals of the new year. Also, one of the lions from the dance that took place at 11 a.m. was in the lobby for most of the day for photos.
The children’s coloring contest is still accepting entries at the museum. If you’d like to visit the museum for a reduced price with your children, an entry to the contest will allow your children to get in for free and half price for accompanying adults. This contest is going on until the end of March. So you can take advantage of the discount for other events going on at the Museum until the end of March. Not only is it good for a discount, there is also a chance your child could win one of the many prizes being offered in different age groups.
There will also be a children’s costume parade with prizes on Saturday, Feb. 9. It will take place at 1:30 p.m. with winners announced at 2 p.m. Be sure to register your child before 1:15 p.m. the day of the event, or before Tuesday, Feb. 5 to receive a free Panda Express Panda.
If you are looking for fun, free activities to do with your children in Chinatown/ID, the Seattle Library offers a Mandarin Chinese Story Time from 1:30 to 2 p.m. on Saturdays at the International District / Chinatown Branch located at 713 Eighth Ave. S.
