2013 KBM preview: Darrell Wallace Jr.

Joe Gibbs Racing development driver Darrell Wallace Jr. will race full-time in the Camping World Truck Series for Kyle Busch Motorsports in 2013 after spending three successful seasons in the K&N Pro Series East with both JGR and NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program and Rev Racing.

Wallace Jr., 19, posted six wins and 25 top 10 finishes in 36 K&N Pro Series East races from 2010 to 2012, becoming the series’ youngest winner when he won in his very first start in the series; he also became the first African-American to win a race at Greenville-Pickens Speedway with the victory. His best points finish was second in 2011.

In 2012, Wallace Jr. race four times for JGR in the Nationwide Series, twice at Iowa and once each at Richmond and Dover. He earned three top 10 finishes and a worst finish of 12th in those four starts; he also won the pole at Dover, where he had a win and two poles in three K&N Pro Series East races. Daytona will mark Wallace Jr.’s first Truck Series start.

“Having Darrell run a full season along with Joey Coulter gives us two young exciting drivers to help further grow our program” said team owner Kyle Busch on the KBM website. “I’ve had the opportunity to race with Darrell and he has proven himself at each level. I can’t wait to see him in one of our Tundras.”
