2013 Kansas City TLC Groundhog Run 5k results (Video)

The 2013 TLC Groundhog Run 5k and 10k went off without a hitch last Sunday, January 27, 2013. The threat of rain and gloomy skies didn’t matter for this foot race as it was all underground. The 5k and 10k were ran on the same 5k loop as all runners experienced the comfort and amenities of the Hunt Midwest Subtropolis.

With tunnels wide enough for two lanes of tractor trailers, runners had ample space to spread out after the first half mile to sprint, jog or walk their way to the finish line.

This year’s race saw an introduction of a new logo design without the groundhog mascot of past designs and the introduction of wave starts for the races. As the race has become more popular, organizers have reviewed ways to make room for more runners. Having waves instead of one mass start allowed the addition of 500 more race slots.

In the end, only a few speedy runners could be crowned the winner of the 5k and 10k. Below are the top 5 men and women for the 5k race.
