The countdown to Halloween 2013 is on! We are officially 23 days away from “All Hallow's Eve” and if you love all things Halloween such as haunted houses, fall festivals, and even ghost tours you are in luck because they are multiplying and getting more popular every year.
According to a NBC News report on Oct. 6, there are around 2,500 haunted attractions worldwide and that number is expected to grow. Patrick Konopelski, president and owner of Shocktoberfest in Sinking Spring, Pa., and president of the Haunted Attraction Association knows that the popularity has risen 10 fold over the last decade.
Halloween has become just as much of a commercial money maker as Christmas.
“It’s a legitimate industry now,” he said. “Now we’re a season.”
Indeed, Americans plan to spend nearly $7 billion on Halloween this fall. And about 20 percent of the 158 million consumers who plan to celebrate Halloween say they will visit haunted attractions this year, according to the National Retail Federation’s annual Halloween survey.
