Hagerstown Hopes will be held on May 18, 2013. Hagerstown Hopes will be located in the area around the Arts Pavilion at Doub's Wood Park. From noon until 4 PM, guests can enjoy live music, guest speakers, a children's play area, and local merchants.
"This year we are even bigger and better. We've added vendors and a children's area. We've extended the event for a full hour. Once again, we are proud of our aim to promote equality and acceptance for all," said Anna Draper Bowers, founder of Hagerstown Hopes.
The theme of the 2013 festival is discrimination of the LGBTQ community. Speakers will be talking about important issues such as becoming a homeless teen because of sexual orientation and discrimination in employment or housing. Musical guests will include Lawren Hill and Lance Trussell, DJ JerrBear, and Shawn Nakia. Organizations planning to attend include HagerstownTGs, Frederick Pride, and Veritas United Church of Christ.
"We have a strong Facebook community that anyone can join at Facebook.com/HagerstownHopes. We have fliers that people can print and share themselves. We have vender spots still open to those interested. Based on last year's success, we're optimistic that we can surpass our new goals with the help of the local community," said Shannon Vitiritti, Social Media Director of Hagerstown Hopes.
Hagerstown Hopes will be held on May 18 as a rain or shine event. Those wishing more information should email HagerstownHopes@Gmail.com or send a message via Facebook. Directions to Doub's Wood Park will be posted on Facebook.
