Great amateur boxing action lines up in March with the 2013 Colorado State Golden Gloves Tournament beginning later this month.
But just in case you’re looking for that pre-Golden Gloves tune-up, head down to Swink High School in Swink, Colorado, where ‘In the Lions Den’, an amateur boxing show where ALL BOXERS ARE WELCOME, takes place on Saturday, March 16th, with weigh-ins from 8-10AM and doors opening to the public at 2:30, fight action beginning promptly at 3PM.
Ticket prices are adults- $7, students-$5 with kids under 5 admitted FREE.

The 5th Annual Colorado Golden Hall-of-Fame Banquet is set for Saturday, March 23rd beginning at 4:30PM with familiar names headlining the 2013 inductees beginning with Dr. Russell Simpson (physician), Jeanne DePriest (official), Victor Abad (coach) and Joey Romero (boxer, posthumously).
The $45 banquet ticket price includes a delicious catered dinner, ringside seats for the Finals and the opportunity to see and visit with some of Colorado’s All-Time Great boxers who come out in support of this event.
The 2013 Colorado State Golden Gloves Tournament is being held at the Crowne Plaza Convention Center, 15500 E. 40th Avenue (I-70 & Chambers) with fight action beginning Wednesday, March 20th, the Finals on Saturday, March 23rd.
Some of Colorado’s premier JUNIOR—8-16 years female/male boxers, SENIOR—17-34 years female/male (Open Class, Novice and ‘B’) and MASTERS—35 years and up female/male boxers will participate, with Open Class Champions advancing to Regional competition.
FYI: Age in ALL cases is determined by your age during the calendar year 2013.
New Mexico brings their Champions to town for Regional competition on Saturday, April 20th at Terreno-Macizo, 4700 Lipan St., those winners then advancing to the (Men’s) 2013 National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions May 13-18 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the (Women’s) 2013 National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions held July 9-13 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The continued absence of those boxers who have been successful in moving onto the professional ranks in a loud and firm voice of support for amateur boxing remains a major concern, as amateur boxing must garner a stronger show of support lest they suffer the same demise as wrestling, as was recently handed down by the IOC (International Olympic Committee).
