Hollywood’s biggest party is tonight with the Golden Globes. The Hollywood Foreign Press will put their stamp on the season in both film and television. Let’s just stick to the film side here though, and predict who looks to be adding Golden Globe winner to their resume.
Best Picture – Drama
- Lincoln
Best Picture – Comedy/Musical
- Les Miserables
The top prizes at the Globes are split between two categories (as are the lead acting categories), so we’ll see two best picture winners tomorrow. “Lincoln” looks to walk away as it has proven to be a critic’s favorite for some time now. “Les Miserables” on the other hand is in more of a fight with “Silver Linings Playbook”, but I feel the HFPA will give Tom Hooper’s film some love.
Best Actor – Drama
- Daniel Day-Lewis - Lincoln
Best Actress – Drama
- Jessica Chastain – Zero Dark Thirty
Best Actor – Comedy/Musical
- Hugh Jackman – Les Miserables
Best Actress – Comedy/Muscial
- Jennifer Lawrence – Silver Linings Playbook
The only one of these that isn’t a sure bet is Hugh Jackman, with a chance that Bradley Cooper could sweep in and take it from him, but I think “Les Mis’ will get love across the board and Jackman benefits.
Best Supporting Actor
- Leonardo DiCaprio – Django Unchained
Best Supporting Actress
- Anne Hathaway – Les Miserables
Hathaway is a lock for the rest of the awards season, but DiCaprio is a little bit of a riskier pick. The Globes showed a lot of love for “Django”, and I think they will show it to the films biggest name as well.
Best Director
- Steven Spielberg
This could be the biggest question mark. Lincoln will likely be the favorite pick of the HFPA, but karma might just be on Ben Affleck’s side after his Oscar snub on Thursday.
Best Screenplay
- Lincoln
Tarantino or Boal could come in and surprise, but Tony Kushner will likely ride the “Lincoln” wave to a win.
Best Animated Film
- Frankenweenie
Best Foreign Language Film
- Amour
Best Score
- Lincoln
Best Song
- “Skyfall” - Skyfall
