Food inspired footwear! Havaianas and Michelle Bernstein came together to kick off the 2013 Food & Wine Burger Bash. For the event, the James Beard Award winning chef created an eclectic menu of recipes inspired by the exclusive Havaianas collection of flip flop styles and food-inspired pins. In addition, guests could customize their very own flip flops with food pins such as pasta, cracked eggs, burgers, fries, ice-cream, pickles, ketchup, etc.
Michelle answered a few questions about her work with Havainas:
1 - How excited were you to be partnered with Havaianas??
Considering they are my truly #1 choice for flip flops as well as my husbands, SUPER EXCITED.
2 - What was your inspiration for the food that matches the sandals?
I just thought, have some fun, make the food I love and add a touch of Brazilian flavor to it!
3 - Which pin is your favorite?
I can’t decide but I love the fries and the burger ones.
4 - Which sandal design is your favorite?
Slim, Sand Gray; they go with everything; but I do own about 4 other colors to go with certain outfits
5 - How did this partnership happen?
They called, I answered; all they had to say is Havaianas!
6 - Do you see doing more, perhaps taking this idea on the road?
Sure, if they want me.
7 - What did attendees see, experience and taste??
Lots of love, respect and fun on one plate.
Michelle joined fellow chefs Rachael Ray, Bobby Flay, Guy Fieri, Morimoto, Danny Meyer, Tim Love, Michael Symon, and more, who all went crazy for the new customized Havaianas. Tim Love even made a pair. For the foodies at home that missed everyone’s favorite booth at Burger Bash this year, you can still customize your very own food-inspired pair for a limited time.
