Far away, the clacking of heels and the careful preservation of coveted invitations fill a small, but glamorous section of New York City this morning. NYFW kicks off today and the eyes of the fashion world will cease to consider Valentine’s Day, the Grammy’s or much else in the coming days and weeks of Fashion Month. While all of this may be very far away from Huntsville, early next month, the Rocket City hosts 2013 Fashion Week Alabama.
Spanning the week of March 4 through 9, 2013 Fashion Week Alabama celebrates and highlights designers and artists from Huntsville and beyond with daily events around the city. The finale and main fashion show on Saturday, March 9 features celebrity emcee Victoria Henley of America’s Top Model. The Finale showcases a collection of spring fashion from designers and boutiques in Alabama and surrounding states.
The week kicks off with a social at Huntsville Art League on Monday, March 4 at 6 p.m. Getting the week started in style, the evening features local fashion designers and artists of the Huntsville Art League. The events continue nightly, find the full schedule here.
Fashion Week Alabama (FWA) was established in Huntsville in July of 2011 to promote fashion, art and commerce in the state of Alabama. FWA is under the direction of the Alabama Fashion Alliance, a cooperative of community professionals and volunteers working to advance art and fashion in Huntsville and beyond.
Proceeds for 2013 Fashion Week Alabama support The Studio for Teens, an outreach program located in Huntsville for runaways and street youth. Find out more at safeplacehelps.org.
