Amidst the flurry of pre-parties, tea parties, and after-parties being held to celebrate tonight's Emmy Awards, there's one party being held after the show that is guaranteed to not take itself too seriously. According to E! Online, Mad Men's Jon Hamm and Amy Poehler of Parks and Recreation are co-hosting an after-party just for tonight's losers.
Hamm and Poehler have racked up 15 individual Emmy nominations between them and are both nominated for their leading roles tonight but have yet to take home the top prize. Hamm says he and Poehler go way back as friends and that they would call each other 'loser' for the night every year when they didn't win their category. The self-deprecating tradition became an idea for a full-out party last year at a post-Emmy shindig thrown by Poehler's former SNL cast mate Kristen Wiig that had zero winners in attendance.
"We called it the Losers Lounge because nobody that was there won and it kind of stuck," Hamm told E!'s Marc Malkin. "We were like, ‘That was a really fun party. We should do that again, but we should do it bigger and better and invite our friends who aren't going to win either and we'll have a good time with it.'"
So what happens if one (or both) of them nab their first Emmy tonight?
Never fear, they won't be shut out of their own party. Hamm's longtime girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt said winners will be required to check their Emmy at the door and donate $1,000 to charity.
"We might end up doing a lot for humanity on Sunday night," Westfeldt said.
The Emmys will be broadcast tonight at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
