"Dancing with the Stars" is almost ready to release the names of the stars competing on season 16. TMZ reported on Feb. 22, 2013, that pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy quit the show. Maks did not reveal the reason for his departure, but he does want to stay in the entertainment industry.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy has been with "Dancing with the Stars" since the show's second season. He was engaged to fellow "DWTS" dancer Karina Smirnoff, but she broke off their engagement in 2009. He was recently linked to another "DWTS" pro Peta Murgatroyd, but they broke up after 10 months of dating. Maksim's brother, Val Chmerkovskiy, is now permanently a member of the professional cast of dancers.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy is currently pursuing movie and TV projects. His younger brother Val will remain on "Dancing with the Stars" for 2013. Maks has never won the mirror ball trophy, but he came close a couple of times. He previously told the New York Post,
"What else do I have to do there after 15 seasons? It makes total sense. The audience can’t expect for me to want to stick around, and the producers can’t expect for me to want to stick around."
The official "DWTS" cast announcement will be made on Feb. 26, 2013. Season 16 premieres Monday, March 18, 2013, on ABC, channel WJXX in Jacksonville, Fla.
