February means it's time for comic book, TV, and movie geeks to congregate at the annual Dallas Sci-Fi Expo. The coordinators of the event continue to bring in top celebrities and artists in what appears to be a competition to one-up themselves every year. There's something to buy or someone to meet for any generation of fanboy or girl.
It's hard to believe so many great actors from so many popular films and shows could be in the same place at one time. From movies and shows that are in their prime now to the ones we grew up on, Sci-Fi Expo has them all. Most will be at the event both days signing autographs and greeting fans.
"Back to the Future" fans will be excited for what could be touted as a reunion of sorts. Christopher Lloyd (Dr. Emmett Brown), Lea Thompson (Lorraine Baines), and James Tolkan (Mr. Strickland) will be in attendance. Claudia Wells, who played the original Jennifer Parker in the first movie, will be making her debut convention appearance in Dallas as well.
Sci-Fi Expo isn't just for comic book and sci-fi nerds anymore. Horror fans get their due as well with guests from one of the hottest shows on TV now, "The Walking Dead." Danai Gurira (Michonne), Laurie Holden (Andrea), and Emma Bell (Amy) will be meeting and greeting zombie enthusiasts.
"Battlestar Galactica" fans are in luck as three of the main stars are appearing. Edward James Olmos (Admiral William Adama), Tricia Helfer (Number Six), and James Callis (Gaius Baltar) make Sci-Fi Expo a mini-reunion for the hit series.
Media guests for this year include many first-timers for Sci-Fi Expo. Avery Brooks ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"), Sam Witwer ("Star Wars: The Clone Wars," "Being Human," "Smallville"), Andrew McCarthy ("Pretty in Pink," "St. Elmo's Fire"), Billy Boyd ("The Lord of the Rings" movies), and Gil Gerard ("Buck Rogers in the 25th Century") all make their Dallas convention debuts.
Returning guests include Morena Baccarin ("Firefly," "Stargate SG-1," "V"), Bruce Boxlietner ("TRON" movies and animated series, "Babylon 5"), Cindy Morgan ("TRON," "Caddyshack"), William Sanderson ("Blade Runner," "True Blood"), Kevin Sorbo ("Hercules: The Legendary Journeys," "Andromeda"), and Glenn Morshower ("Transformers" movies, "X-Men: First Class").
Many high profile comic book artists will be in attendance as well. Artists Adam Hughes ("Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan," "Batgirl"), George Perez ("Superman," "Wonder Woman"), Michael Golden ("Doctor Strange," "X-Men," "Batman"), Mark Texeira ("Ghost Rider," "Punisher"), Cynthia Martin ("Amazing Spider-Man," "Blue Beetle," "Wonder Woman"), and Steve Erwin ("Deathstroke the Terminator," "New Titans") are included. "Star Wars Galaxy," "Indiana Jones," and "Marvel" trading card illustrator Allison Sohn will be there as well.
Other comic guests include editor Renee Witterstaetter ("Superman," "Brave and the Bold," "Guardians of the Galaxy" "Silver Surfer"), writer Jim Valentino ("The Avengers," "Guardians of the Galaxy"), artist Tom Feister ("G.I. Joe," "Iron Man," "Fantastic Four"), artist Joe Eisma ("Morning Glories," "Notorious"), and sketch card artist Cal Slayton ("Marvel Universe, "Star Wars Galaxy, " and "DC New 52").
The Exhibition room will feature loads of venders selling new and vintage toys, collectibles, t-shirts, and comic books. There will be no shortage of great items for fans of any era or genre to purchase. Many collectors could find that specific autograph or classic toy they've been looking for their entire life.
Dallas Sci-Fi Expo takes place on February 9th and 10th at the Irving Convention Center in Irving, TX. Convention hours are 11:00AM to 7:00PM on Saturday and 11:00AM to 5:00PM on Sunday. For more information on tickets and the schedule go to the official website.
