2013 CrossFit Open 13.1 announced tonight (Photos)

The 2013 CrossFit Open, billed as the "Fittest on Earth," begins tonight at 5pm PT (that's 8pm for those of us on the East Coast), and you can view it live on the CrossFit Games website.

Launching the 2013 Open will be Dave Castro's announcement of 13.1, which is the required workout for those who registered for the Open and are working to compete in the 2013 CrossFit Games. This announcement is highly anticipated as more than 100,000 athletes have registered for this year’s Open, the largest in the short history of the games.

In 2012, the opening workout was to complete as many burpees as possible in seven minutes. The top scoring women completed over 130 burpees in 7 minutes, and the top scoring men completed over 150. The 2011 11.1 workout was also an AMRAP (as many reps as possible) of 30 double unders and 15 power snatches. What agonizing joy 13.1 will bring, we’re waiting to hear.

Once the official announcement is made, registrants have until Sunday of this week to submit their results. Some will post quickly, others will wait to see the level of competition before posting. More information about submitting official workouts can be found on the 2013 CrossFit Games website.

Updates and pictures will be available throughout the Open (March 6 - April 7) on the Adrenaline Complex. Let the Games begin!
