2013 Colorado Golden Gloves StateTournament details announced

The Colorado Golden Gloves Charities has announced information for their Annual State Boxing Tournament with the seemingly ageless Jesse Mora back at the helm as Colorado Golden Gloves Chairman.

With the abrupt resignation of just recently promoted Beau Campbell (unspecified reasons) and prior to that stepping down from the position by C.C. Edwards (health concerns) unfortunately forcing Mora back from a brief retirement that lasted less than two years, he’s once again ‘Back in the Saddle’.

Having declared upon retirement back on June 30, 2011, that he would focus more on what he considered of major concern, “The USA Boxing rules changes along with the now too often ‘confrontations’, make it seem like it’s not for the kids anymore”, things have changed very little as Mora returns.

As disappointing as it seems for Mora (his wife Julie maybe glad to have him out of her hair) to come back and take control of an organization to which he has dedicated his life, it won’t be long before he chooses a just as dedicated individual as the new Colorado Golden Gloves Chairman.

The 2013 Colorado State Golden Gloves Tournament will again be held at the Crowne Plaza Convention Center and Hotel, 15500 E. 40th Ave. (I-70 & Chambers) beginning with preliminary action Wednesday, March 20th with doors opening at 5:50PM and ending Saturday March 23rd, doors opening at 6:30PM for Finals Championship Bouts.

The administration and staff of the Crowne Plaza Convention Center have provided hospitality second to none that ‘Olympic Style’ (formerly referred to as ‘amateur’) boxing fans have comfortably grown accustomed to.

The '5th Annual ‘Colorado Golden Gloves Hall-of-Fame Banquet’, acknowledging their legends of boxing, will be held Saturday, March 23rd with doors opening at 4PM, dinner served at 4:30PM.

This year’s inductees include (posthumously) Joey Romero (boxer), Dr. Russell Simpson (physician), Jeanne DePriest (official) and Victor Abad (coach).

This group reflects the same dedication to the sport that last year’s inductees and Colorado amateur boxing legends Jesse Mora, Lou Lopez, Raymond ‘Monk’ Romero and the great Rudolfo ‘Corky’ Gonzales (posthumously) so passionately displayed.

Saturday evening’s (March 23rd) Hall-of-Fame tickets ($45) include dinner, ceremony and Championship Bouts (VIP seating) can be secured in advance by calling 303-923-5263.
