The chance to become a 2013 Colorado Golden Gloves Champion officially began last night with the weigh-ins conducted and some 185 entrants registering at the Crowne Plaza Convention Center, 15500 E. 40th Avenue (I-70 & Chambers) making it a long night for some of the Colorado Golden Gloves Board of Directors who were still at the Convention Center facility at 6:30AM this morning after beginning their work well before the 5PM registrations began last night.
“I’d like to personally thank specifically Carmen Beall, Jeanne DePriest and E. Paul Kelly for showing their dedication to our Colorado Golden Gloves boxers and their coaches by going the extra mile and getting the bracketing done so that we can begin competition this evening”, said Colorado Golden Gloves Chairman Jess Mora.
Bracketing completed, boxers and coaches can find their opponent on the door of the Crowne Plaza Convention Center door or the Colorado Golden Gloves website later today.
Understanding the huge undertaking by the BOD, coaches please show a little patience, gratitude and respect for the effort put forth and the long hours put in by Beall, DePriest and Kelly along with many others for tonight’s opening competition.
Doors open at 5:30PM with fight action beginning at 6:30PM.
Tickets: $20 Ringside and $15 General Admission.
The New Rules instituted by AIBA that will be in play during the USA National Tournament held March 30-April 6 in Spokane, Washington, will have no bearing on the 2013 Colorado Golden Gloves.
During the USA National Tournament ‘Elite’ male competitors (aged 19-40) have been mandated to no longer wear headgear, a decision made by AIBA that will be put to the test with either a positive outcome that will have American coaches maybe support the idea, or a negative response if some athletes suffer severe cut’s, contusions or head injuries.
The 5th Annual Colorado Golden Gloves Hall-of-Fame dinner and induction ceremony will be held prior to the Tournament Finals this Saturday night and includes the familiar names of Dr. Russell Simpson (ringside physician), Jeanne DePriest (official), Victor Abad (coach) and Joey Romero (boxer) posthumously who are all well deserving of the recognition.
All Open-Class male and female winners advance to Regional Golden Gloves competition where Colorado vs New Mexico takes place on Saturday, April 20th here in Denver.
