Largely considered to be the most popular event in amateur boxing, the 2013 Chicago Golden Gloves tournament began preliminary bouts the first weekend in March. The tournament has been around since 1923 and Chicago's division is largely considered one of the most respected of the Golden Gloves tournaments, which are held nationwide, culminating in the national tournament where winners from their local tournaments are able to compete against their peers across the U.S.
As the tournament continues and more fighters are eliminated, competition gets more intense and stakes are higher. The tournament officially began on March 6, 2013 and the final bouts will be held on April 11, April 12 and April 13. All championship bouts will begin at 8 pm and tickets available for general admission, main floor and ringside.
For those familiar with the tournament, the competition has relocated this year to Cicero Stadium, 1909 S Laramie, Chicago, IL. The new location boasts the advantage of more parking than the Golden Gloves' previous location at Gordon Tech High School at Addison and California.
If you're a boxing enthusiast local to Chicago and have never been able to witness a live match, the Golden Gloves are a must. The tournament is also a good time for experience boxing fans or competitive martial artists who want to support their peers and enjoy a night of live competition.
